But, being at Invesco is not just about working in the office - we are very much part of the local community and actively support all employees who give their time to all our external activities.

We also take looking after our environment seriously and are proud of the many environmentally friendly initiatives we have in place.

Environmentally friendly initiatives

At Invesco we are very proud of our environmental practices.

Our aim

To implement the Invesco environmental management system globally, our aim is to have 80% of Invesco sites certified to the ISO 14001 international standard by 2011.

To offset carbon emissions from air travel by installing renewable energy resources like solar and participating in reforestation schemes.

Our achievements

Since 2004 the UK offices have maintained and continually improved upon the Invesco environmental management system and our UK offices join four other locations globally which maintain environmental management systems. In the UK, we have currently met 59% of our 80% target as at 28/02/2011.

Energy saving

  • We have submitted an application to the Carbon Trust to meet the requirements of the Carbon Trust Standard in January 2010
  • We achieved a 7% reduction between 2007 - 2009 with an overall saving of 448 Tonnes of CO2
  • In order to reduce our total carbon dioxide emissions, our UK offices are now supplied by hydropower, resulting in zero carbon emissions
  • Air travel is an inevitable by-product of being a global organisation; however we always aim to minimise this by promoting teleconferencing where possible
  • We are proud of our excellent recycling facilities within our UK sites and we are successfully reducing the amount of waste that we send to landfill

Travel plan

Across all Invesco offices in the UK

  • Excellent shower facilities for those employees who cycle (or run) to work
  • Interest-free loans for public transport season tickets

At Invesco in Henley-on-Thames

  • A regular free coach service from Reading to our Henley site
  • Company bicycles available for free hire
  • A car sharing scheme which rewards you with £5 for every day you car share. It's been in place for over 5 years and has reduced the cars at the Henley office by 14% and saved over 50 tonnes of CO2 emissions

In the community

Helping the community is an essential part of our business. The Community Support Group committee oversees our involvement in both community and charity work.

Aims

  • To encourage participation and giving amongst employees
  • To create enthusiasm and commitment to improving education, welfare and quality of life with an emphasis on the communities close to our offices
  • To strengthen these communities through the giving of both time and money to support their development current initiatives
  • Reading partners for local school children
  • Monthly dress down day events for charities nominated by employees
